The Diamond Rating is for achievement on South African National and International Salons. All International Salons must be recognized by one or more of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain, or the Photographic Society of America, or Australian Photographic Society, or by FIAP, (the International Federation of Photographic Art).
Diamond Ratings are awarded for Digital, Prints, Slides or Audio-Visual in Pictorial and/or Nature while gaining Salon Acceptances for yourself. There are two other annual trophy competitions in which you automatically participate, i.e.
- The Impala Trophy and Top Ten Awards
- The Premier club Award – this is an accumulation of the points you and your club members gain with your current annual Salon Acceptances. The winning club is the one gaining the most points after the application of a handicapping formula.
Diamond Ratings will be awarded for the divisions in the following colours:

Requirements
1.
- 1 Diamond Rating – Total of 15 acceptances with a minimum of 5 images
- 2 Diamond Rating – Total of 30 acceptances with a minimum of 10 images
- 3 Diamond Rating – Total of 60 acceptances with a minimum of 20 images
- 4 Diamond Rating – Total of 125 acceptances with a minimum of 42 images
- 5 Diamond Rating – Total of 250 acceptances with a minimum of 84 images
- EPSSA – Total of 500 acceptances with a minimum of 167 images
You will be awarded an EPSSA, Expert of the Photographic Society of South Africa, when you have achieved a 5 Diamond Rating in both the Pictorial and Nature Section in Digital, Slides or Prints or Audio-Visual.
- Diamond Cluster Rating – Total of 750 acceptances with a minimum of 250 images.
A Diamond Cluster Rating may also be awarded if you achieve 375 acceptances in Nature and 375 acceptances in Pictorial.
- Mille Award – Total of 1 000 acceptances with a minimum of 333 images. The Mille award may also be awarded if you achieve 500 acceptances in Nature and 500 acceptances in Pictorial.
- Audio-Visual
1 Diamond Rating – Total of 3 acceptances with a minimum of 1 AV,
Etc.
- If you are versatile enough, you could hold 8 Diamond ratings.
2. Only three credits may be claimed for 1 digital image, slide, print or audio-visual sequence. Some images can qualify for both Pictorial and Nature (e.g. Landscape with no human elements). A maximum of three acceptances may be claimed in total.
- Where Salons have categories such as Contemporary or Photojournalism, these points will go to the pictorial category.
- Salon Judges will be credited with a number of points per section they judge equal to the number of Images in that section, on both National and International Salons. Judging points may not constitute more than 50% of the total number of points claimed.
- All credits are carried forward continuously as progress is made through the Diamond Rating. The onus to apply for advancement in the Diamond Rating will rest with the individual and not by automatic notification from PSSA. Acceptances received prior to joining may also be included up to one year prior to joining.
Application
Application forms are available from the Regalia Division of PSSA and when completed should be returned to the Regalia Division of PSSA, with the necessary fee (Current fee is R50-00) each.
