Picture of the Month - August 2010

Evelyn Gibson clearly enjoyed the world cup. She made most of the opportunity to capture this fantastic image

I love this image. For me it depicts the South African spirit that was evident during the World Cup. Taken with the Nikon D300, 70-200 lens plus 1.4 convertor, ISO pushed up. The colours for me are strong giving the image that extra punch depicting our colourful nation.

Entries are open for next month. Do you think your iamge can impress the judges? This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Club Image of the Month - August 2010

Carmine Bee-eaters nest in large colonies along the banks of rivers like the Zambezi and Okavango in Southern Africa. I photographed this adult bird carrying food to its nest along the bank of the Okavango River near to the town of Shakawe. I used a 500mm f4 lens handheld and followed the birds as they swooped over the riverbank and water as they made their approach to the nests. It was not easy to follow-focus on these fast flying birds but I managed to get a couple of images that worked well – this is one of them.

The club image of the month goes to AFO Photography Club. The image was taken by Albert Froneman.

Newsflash

An idea that matters. So, the World Cup is over – Now what? 100% of Host Nations suffer post-event depression. Fact. As South Africans we have experienced an unprecedented high. Which means an even lower low. But maybe not. What if we gave people the permission to remain enthusiastic? Gave them something to celebrate beyond the World Cup? Something they have been celebrating all along - US – US WITH OUR FLAGS. Introducing KEEP FLYING FOR 30 MORE DAYS.

Is this not a great message to take forward? In PSSA we also want to take this message forward. Keep our Society flag flying. We are seeing this in new members joining everyday. In the amount of members applying for their honours and the amount of entries into our Salons.

The goal “Keep flying” everywhere. The idea is open-source, not owned by one brand, it belongs to everyone.

Continue to support a Society that matters. A Society embracing new ideas, new members, new structures with thanks to you all for making this happen.
