Evelyn Gibson - The Sunlight Kid

Evelyn Gibson's image of a sporting child stood out as the winner of the Website Competition for the month of December 2011. Evelyn had the following to say about the image:

This image is a special image for me because it is my youngest grandchild Simon. The original image was a great action shot image but the background was rather messy. I took it with the Nikon D3S with the 28-300 lens at 70 mm, ISO 500, 1/320 sec at F.8 on motor drive. I converted it to Black and White, got rid of the messy background and as he was wearing a T-Shirt that said Sunlight, I decided to call it "The Sunlight Kid" which then gave me this extra thinking of doing something else and I then added some lighting flashes around the ball and his arm, which created for me the description of the image with its title.

Club image of the Month - Winner

Franz Jesche - The Innocence of Youth

At the end of the year the monthly winner of the Club Image of the month are judged to select a winner. The winner for 2011 goes to Franz Jesche of the Camera Club of Johannesburg (CCJ) for the image "The Innocence of Youth".

On a visit to the shores of Lake Malawi in Northern Mozambique at a town called Metangula, we were driving through the rough streets between the houses and spotted the child playing on the stoep of a rondawel.

The little boy turned out to be the perfect actor as he was completely obvilious to our presence. He was moving around slowly positioning himself in many different poses, all producing images that could be considered picture perfect. This photograph just had something above the others.

Newsflash

Here's to the bright New Year, and a fond farewell to the old, here's to the things that are yet to come, and to the memories that we hold.
